Tui – Valença do Minho – Mount Santa Trega
Saturday, 7th October
After departing at the scheduled time, this full-day trip will take you to Tui, a Galician town located on the border with Portugal. Its cathedral, Santa María de la Asunción, is one of its most emblematic sights. The Church of San Bartolomé is also a must: during the 11th and 12th centuries, it was the episcopal see for the bishops of Tui, serving as the first Tui Cathedral.
Across the Miño river, the Portuguese town of Valença do Minho welcomes its visitors. Also known as “A Fortaleza” (literally, “The Fortress”), its old town is surrounded by a defensive wall, from which it takes its nickname. You will have some free time to shop around its many stores, as well as to try a tapa of codfish, one of the most well-known, traditional dishes in Portugal. An optional lunch at a restaurant will be offered. Then, your trip will continue to the municipality of A Guarda, where you will be able to visit Mount Santa Trega. From its top, the views are breathtaking: on one side, the Portuguese coastline and the Miño river estuary can be contemplated; on the other side, the Atlantic Ocean extends before our eyes. Finally, a bus trip will take you back to the departure location.
